Using DRO interface DRO:int4

You will have only once have to deal a bit with the interface. That is during installation. Electrically by connecting the scales cables to the interface, and by software when you have to configure the interaction between scales and the interface. Of course, you also need to somehow mount the scales to your lathe or mill. You can find some tips here.

Electrical Installation:

The DRO:int4 needs to be connected to your digital scales. You have to provide cables and plugs that connect to the interface. Everyone of the four ports has four connections. One is the negative voltage of the power supply to the scale, one is the positive voltage, one the clock line and the last one the data line. Where the pins are in your scale is often described in the accompanying leaflet. If that information is missing, you can use this picture:

Description:

  • Pin 1: neg. voltage
  • Pin 2: data
  • Pin 3: clock
  • Pin 4: positive voltage

It is best if you keep the connections between the scales and the interface short. You can have a long serial cable, as this transmission is much more resistant to electrical noise.

It is very important, that you make no further electrical connections between the interface, the tool (mill, lathe, etc.) and the computer!

Configuration:

The configuration is done by a setup-program that communicates with the scales, detects their type and modifies/creates a configuration file. Normally, you won't have to go into detail with the protocol of the interface. If you want to learn more about because you want to write your own display-routines, or you have problems getting your scales to run, look here for details.
