Why? What? How? Who? Where? When?

There will be some questions before you think the YADRO DRO is the one you want. Here they are, with the answers:

FAQ: General

Q: I constantly read "programmable/scriptable/whatever". I don't want that. I want a DRO!
A: Yes, that's what you get. You don't have to invest time into these feature. But you might want to, out of curiosity. But you don't have to.

Q: But why a DOS-software, I have Windows running on my PC?
A: Do you intend to push a mouse through the chips? Do you want to point and click on your DRO on the lathe?

Q: OK with the user-interface but I insist on Windows!
A: Yes, does that Windows version run on a laptop with a 386 @ 25 MHz and 1MB RAM and still is not occupied just with the OS? The PC got to be inexpensive, that's the reason for DOS. And, every Windows-OS PC has a DOS-version already installed.

Q: I fear that I can't get the kit running, what if…
A: Either find a friend who is helping you in assembling the kit, or, if you have finished the kit but it doesn't work, contact me or the dealer. I think we can help you.

Q: There is a very nice DRO-kit available for around 250$, why should I buy yours?
A: You mean the Shumatech DRO 350? It really is nice! But did you compare functionality and the price.

Q: I don't want a kit! I want it ready built!
A: Maybe in the future, but not right now.

Q: I want a Linux/Mac/Unix/$$-version.
A: Not now. I might rethink the OS-issue. Try the DOS-version.

Q: Manufacturer X has functionY. YADRO is missing it
A: As YADRO is an open and flexible system, I'm open and flexible too. But you have to tell me your wishes.

FAQ: Technical

Q: OK, I still have a PC with an USB-port and want to use that one.
A: Nice! USB is not what you want in the shop. The connection between the PC and a USB-device is galvanic. This increases the risc of a short circuit, because the scales have positive voltage on their body. DRO:int4 has a opto-coupled isolated (up to 1000V) connection.

Q: The interface is nice, but I have a scale that thas a different protocol.
A: Contact me. If it is from a quadrature encoder, there is a very inexpensive "dongle" solving that problem.

Q: Why does the DRO:int4 use a RS-232 connection. USB is much cooler?
A: Yes, well. It might be cool. But PCs or Laptops that do have a USB-port are much more expensive. DRO:int4 connects to an old PC, and those don't have a USB-port. BTW: I bet you get an old PC for free or just some beer.

Q: I want to connect YADRO to my lathe and mill, but only want to invest in one interface. Does that work?
A: Yes, in most cases. If all the scales have the same protocoll and you start configuring the tool with the least scales and start connecting the scales at port #0 without leaving out a connector, it works.

Q: I want to have different configurations of one machine. Can I do that?
A: The simples way is to have the different installs in different subdirectories. If your task is more complex, contact me.
